Solaris 10 - Powerpath Upgrade Instructions.

UPGRADING  POWERPATH FROM EARLIER VERSIONS:

Download the latest version of the EMC Grab utilities  available on EMC Online Support.

Run PowerPath Configuration Checker.

(Note: When you upgrade PowerPath, customized PowerPath settings are preserved (except write throttle queue settings)

You must remove the earlier version of PowerPath before upgrading to the latest PowerPath version. When you remove PowerPath, follow the instructions in the documentation for that version.

(Note: however, that you do not need to reboot the host after you remove the earlier version)

(Note: In a cluster, you must follow the cluster upgrade procedure, which includes booting the host out of the cluster before you upgrade.)

(The upgrade preserves your existing PowerPath license. You do not need to retype the PowerPath license information. )

You must shut down all applications before you upgrade PowerPath. If the host boots off a PowerPath pseudo device, you must reboot after the upgrade.

You cannot upgrade from PowerPath on a SPARC host to PowerPath on an x86 host or the reverse. You can only upgrade from SPARC to SPARC or from x86 to x86.

Root volume mirrors need to be broken before performing an installation or upgrade of PowerPath. Once installation is complete, the root volume mirror can be synchronized again.

Upgrading PowerPath on Solaris 10: Upgrading from PowerPath 5.x to 6.0 with the Management Component installed.

1. Remove the 5.x version Management Component.

2. Remove the earlier PowerPath for Solaris package.

3. Install the latest PowerPath for Solaris package.

Upgrading using the tar file:

Use this procedure when upgrading to a PowerPath service pack or patch.

1. Create a directory where you can unload the PowerPath tar file.

mkdir /unload

2. Change working directory to the unload directory.

cd /unload

Note: Ensure that the unload directory is empty.

3. Copy the tar file to the unload directory.

cp <source_location>/<package_name> .

Example:

cp <source_location>/EMCPower.SOLARIS10.<version>.<build>.tar.gz . (SPARC)

4. Use the gunzip command to unzip the installation package.

gunzip EMCPower.SOLARIS10.<version>.<build>.tar.gz . (SPARC)

5. Use the tar -xvf command to untar the installation package.

tar -xvf EMCPower.SOLARIS10.<version>.<build>.tar (SPARC)

6. If you have not removed the previous version of PowerPath, do so now.

7. Start the installation program.

pkadd -d .

8. At the prompt, type 1 to select the package that you wish to process and then press Enter.

9. You are prompted for the directory where the PowerPath program files will be installed:

Note: PowerPath installs its files in /basedir/EMCpower; the installation process creates the EMCpower subdirectory. Make a note of the name and location of the PowerPath base
directory for future reference.

Enter package base directory (default: /opt):

Press Enter to accept the default base directory (/opt), or type the path to an alternate base directory and press Enter.

10. Press Enter to upgrade.

11. Type y to continue with the installation and then press Enter.

If the host boots off a PowerPath pseudo device, the display includes a prompt to reboot the host.

12. For PowerPath to manage the storage arrays over MPxIO, set the values of mpxio-disable="yes" in the fp.conf file and the iscsi.conf file
